Alfredo Garcia Obituary

Fred, 83, entered eternal rest on February 7, 2024, born on September 9, 1940, at Tres Norias Ranch in Santa Monica, Texas to Abundio and Refugia Garcia.  The youngest of 12, he shared many stories of his adventures on the ranch.  He graduated from Lyford High School and Texas A&I University with a degree in Education with a minor in Spanish.  He later completed several master’s degrees in education.

His professional career in education spanned 30 plus years in various teaching positions throughout the RGV including a position with the Governor’s Office as a Federal Programs Director for Pan American University.  Mr. Garcia retired as a school administrator from Rio Hondo ISD.  During his time at Rio Hondo ISD, he was able to indulge his love of sports as the “starter” for many track meets including many district track meets.  His move to Rio Hondo ISD was made to fulfill his ultimate desire of returning to the place of his birth, “The Ranch” in Santa Monica.

Upon his retirement, he was able to continue his passion of spending his days at Tres Norias Ranch, raising and selling horses, mowing and completing his multiple “projects”.  His greatest enjoyment was watching the next generation enjoy the fruits of his hard work and building wonderful memories that would keep them coming back to Tres Norias Ranch.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years Merida, his 2 daughters Monica Garcia and Veronica (Roel) Garza; 5 grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Garza, Cassandra (Tyler) Smith, Jeremy (Shay) Romo, Sabrina (Shaun) Harris and Tyler (Eila) Garza; 6 great grandchildren, Noah, Elliott, Charlotte, Jameson, Layla and Jackson.  His one and only sister Herlinda (Agustin) Alfonzo, his brother Ernesto (Oralia) and sisters in law Delia and Emma Garcia along with numerous nephews and nieces.

Preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers: Jose Abundio, Ismael, Fidel, Juan, Manuel, Eleazar, Enrique, Tomas, and Miguel.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 4 P.M. until 9 P.M. with a holy rosary at 7 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. All services will conclude at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Willacy County Livestock Show and Fair or Santa Monica Catholic Church.
