Berta Maza Obituary

San Benito –

Berta Salazar Maza, 85, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on January 24, 1936 in Mercedes, Texas to Juan Salazar and Guadalupe Rivera Salazar.

She attended school in Wilamar and San Perlita where she participated in sports and was a cheerleader. She graduated from San Perlita in 1955. In 1955 the family moved to Raymondville, Texas. After graduation she went to work at the clinic of Dr. Badden, Dr. George Benneck, and Dr. Spence. Later she went to work at Raymondville Memorial Hospital until 1968 when she moved to Edinburg and worked at the Edinburg Medical Center for Dr. Omar, Dr. Ben, and Dr. Marin Garza until 1973. She moved back to Raymondville and began working at First National Bank as a bookkeeper. When First National Bank opened in Brownsville she continued to work as a bookkeeper. Later she became one of the officers for the Brownsville branch. She continued to work for the bank until her retirement. She married Refugio Maza in May of 1975. They were married for over 25 years.

She is survived by her niece, Lourdes Loya. Her family, Irma (Rudy) Tristan, Nora Noyola, Gloria (Luis) Hernandez, Joe (Cris) Maza, Homer (Jackie) Maza, Refugio (Martha) Maza, Wuero (Elida) Maza, sisters-in-law, Anita Salinas and Liz Escalante, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Lupita Salazar, sister and brother-in-law, Raquel and Lazaro Loya.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 6:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held today, Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. A funeral procession will follow to her final place of rest in the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Justin Noyola, George Gonzales, Luis Hernandez, Juan Barrientos, Jonathan Barrientos, Jerry Rodriguez, Freddy Gomez, and Ramiro de Leon.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, TX 78580.
