Bertha R. Castaneda, 93, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a beautiful testament to faith, love and perseverance, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Born on March 3, 1932, in Penitas, Texas, Bertha grew up with a strong foundation of family values and catholic faith. These early lessons shaped her into the woman she became; faithful, hardworking, and deeply devoted to those she loved. She married the love of her life, Pedro “Pete” Castaneda Sr., and together they built a family and a future rooted in commitment and perseverance. Side by side, they worked tirelessly to establish Pete’s Tire Shop, pouring their hearts into a business that became both their livelihood and legacy. Her role was not only as a supportive wife, but also as a true partner in building success-always contributing to with determination, vision, and care. Beyond her work, her heart was always at home. She found joy in the simple, everyday moments that created the fabric of family life. She loved to spend her days tending to her plants, nurturing each with patience and care. She delighted in rocking her great grandchildren to sleep, humming softly as they drifted into dreams, and she poured love into every meal she prepared, bringing her family together around the table with her cooking. Her Catholic faith was the anchor of her life. She prayed the rosary faithfully twice a day, finding strength and peace in the quiet rhythm of prayer. Her devotion was not only a private practice but something she shared openly with others, inspiring her family daily. She also shared her gift of song through the church choir, where she joyfully lifted her voice at Saturday mass whenever her health allowed. To her family, she was the heart and soul- the one who offered comfort, guidance, strength, and inspiration.
Bertha is survived by her children, Debbie (Joe) Pedraza, Rene (Theresa) Castaneda, Diamond (Edward) Zavala, Delma, and Pedro Jr. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maximo and Justina Ramirez; her loving husband of 58 years, Pete Castaneda; and her children, Diana Cardenas and Tomas Castaneda.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Andrew Pedraza, Hector Anguiano Jr., Roy Martinez Jr., Jesse Joe Rodriguez, Henry Castandea, and Noe Vasquez. Honorary pallbearers will be Rene Castaneda, Joe Pedraza III, Joe Pedraza Jr., Hector Anguiano III, Jesse Joe Rodriguez Jr., Sergio Rodriguez, Orlando Perez, and Eddie Blanco.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to My Care Medical group (Raymondville) and Anchor of Love Hospice (Julie Blanco-Cortez) for their exceptional comfort, compassion, and care during Bertha’s final journey.
Her legacy of faith, strength, devotion, and love will live on in her children and grandchildren, who will continue to honor her by carrying forward the values she instilled in them. Her memory will forever remain in the gardens she nurtured, the prayers she whispered, the hymns she sang, and the meals shared around her table. Though her earthly presence has passed, the love she gave will continue to blossom in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
