Bonifacio Aguilar Obituary

Bonifacio (Bunny) Aguilar of Raymondville, Texas, passed away after a short hospitalization on November 30, 2025, at the age of 77.  Born to John Francisco Simon Rodriguez Aguilar and Rachel Morales Aguilar, on October 3, 1948, in Alice, Texas, his family moved when he was age three to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he spent his formative years.

He attended Harry E Wood High School and worked in his father's commercial sign business. He also worked as a hospital orderly and saw a future for himself as a professional mortician. It took some years, but he eventually fulfilled this ambition.

Bonifacio was a proud Navy veteran and had just recently enjoyed a happy Veteran's Day celebration dinner at Golden Palms Rehabilitation and Retirement Center in Harlingen, TX where he resided. He served aboard the Navy hospital ship USNS Mercy when it deployed to the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, 1990-1). He served as a Hospital Corpsman, Petty Officer, Third Class, providing critical mortuary services. This is a very small, highly specialized field within the Navy. Following his Naval service, Bonifacio went on to a civilian career as a Funeral Director, licensed in the State of Texas, serving the valley community for many years. He was known for maintaining highly professional standards and providing empathetic care to client families in their time of grief.

Following the death of a previous spouse, Safria, he was fortunate to once again find a loving companion, his precious Yoli, whom he loved for the rest of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda Aguilar, his son, Bonifacio Juaquin Simon Aguilar, his daughter, Darianna Vargas, and stepdaughter, Brandy Diamond, his brothers, John R Aguilar, Rudolpho B Aguilar, Marcus A Aguilar, Victor W Aguilar, and Roman S Aguilar, his sisters, Carmen A Carter, Simoney M Roatcap, Nana R Aguilar, and Cynthia A Delk, his grandchildren, Santiago Vargas, Jake Spencer Aguilar, Francesca Vargas, Alexander Vargas, Xiomara Vargas, Lane Bankhead, Christian Bankhead, Victoria Bankhead, and Ashley Bowman, and his great grandchildren, Layla Bankhead, Oakland Bankhead, and Arthur Bankhead

He is preceded in death by his twin grandsons, Oliver and Noah Vargas, his brother, David Douglas Aguilar, his father, John F Aguilar and his mother, Rachel Aguilar.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are John R Aguilar, Rudolpho Aguilar, Victor Aguilar, Joaquin Aguilar, Jake Aguilar, and Jorge Vargas.
