Cruz G. Cervantes, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and wife on Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was born to Domingo and Maria Cervantes on May 3, 1940 in Hargil, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Emilia Cervantes, his daughter, Vilma Cervantes, sons, Mark and Adrian (Natalie) Cervantes, grandchildren, Michael Cervantes, Matthew Cervantes, Myranda Cervantes, Alysa, Callie and Aidan Cervantes, sisters, Maria Vasquez of Shafter, CA and Clemen Deleon of Edinburg, TX, brother, Antonio Cervantes of Raymondville, Texas. He is preceded in death by parents, Domingo and Maria Cervantes and sisters, Rita Ramos, Josefina Salinas, and Angelica Suarez, and brother, Margarito Cervantes.
Cruz graduated from Raymondville H.S. in 1960. He was voted Best All Around, played basketball, baseball, and was All District in Football. Cruz graduated from Texas Southmost with an Associates Degree in Business. He retired from the Texas Dept. of Human Services after serving 30 years. He served in the capacity of Supervisor before his retirement.
In his younger years, Cruz served his community as an active member of the local Lions Club, as well as the Jaycees. He will best be remembered for the love he shared for his family and grandchildren. Cruz enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s football, baskeball volleyball and soccer games.
Viewing will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:00 A.M at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A funeral procession will follow to his final rest at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers were Noe Loya Jr., Raymond Tamez, Josh Klostermann, Raul Rios Jr., Gabriel Gomez, and Rene Cervantes. Honorary pallbearer will be Santos Sanchez.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, TX 78580.
