George Cortinas Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Guadalupe Cortinas, who left us peacefully on November 12, 2024.

George was born on January 7, 1947, in Raymondville, Texas to Pedro and Maria Cortinas. From a young age, he had a passion for the open road and the freedom that came with it. He was known for his strong work ethic, commitment to safety, and a knack for storytelling and being a jokester that kept his friends and family entertained for hours. For over 50 years, he dedicated his life to the trucking industry, traveling countless miles and connecting with people from all walks of life.

George was more than just a truck driver; he was a mentor to many and a cherished member of the trucking community. His friends admired him for his reliability and kindness, always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved sharing his adventures on the road and often brought home stories to tell all who listened. When he could find respite from the road, he enjoyed his favorite pastime of watching boxing every chance he could.

He poured his heart into being a supportive and loving father. His children left to cherish his memory are Violet Guzman, George Cortinas, Jr., Teresa Cortinas, Joe Louis Cortinas, Carolina Chapa, Jaime Cortinas and Andres Cortinas. He worked extremely hard to provide for them as best he could. He enjoyed time with them when they visited, especially if any of his 29 grandchildren or 31 great grandchildren were in town.

In addition to his children, George leaves behind his loving partner, Rosa Elena Arredondo, who stood by his side through thick and thin as well as her children Merari and Priscilla.  He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Lucia Carrion of Port LaVaca, Leonor Guzman of Gonzalez, CA., Lydia Adame of Immokalee, FL., Gloria Salas of Corpus Christi, TX, Dolores Lopez of Raymondville, TX, and Tile Rios of Groesbeck, TX.  He also had numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who will remember his gentle smile and kindness.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home.  A celebration of George’s life will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow to his final place of rest at the Raymondville Memorial Cemetery. Please join us as we honor the life of a remarkable man who truly enjoyed lived life to its fullest.

George, you will be missed deeply but will forever live on in our stories and memories. Safe travels home.
