Manuel “Chop” Barrientez, Jr., 70, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on June 2, 1952, at Santa Fe Ranch just outside of Edinburg, Texas to Manuel Sr. and Sofia Barrientez.
Manuel always put God first in his life. He read his Bible every day. His family was everything to him. He grew up at Norias Ranch, which is a branch of the King Ranch. When he got older, he even worked for Norias Ranch. He eventually moved on to work for Terracon until his retirement in June of 2014. After his retirement, he became very active in his grandchildren’s lives. He never missed a piano recital or any athletic games. He also enjoyed watching wrestling. If you knew him, you knew he would not answer ANY phone calls during those times. Dad was loved by everyone who met him and was a jokester, always making people smile. Although his time on Earth was cut short, we are grateful for all the memories he left us with and know that we will be reunited once again. He now will always have the best seat in the house to watch over everyone in all their activities and greatest life achievements.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda Mata, son, Tommy (Claudia) Martinez, daughters, Victoria (Mark) Rodriguez, Valeria (Rodrigo) Badillo, Jennifer Salazar, Veronica Barrientez, and Priscilla Cantu, 26 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, close cousin, Bea (Alex) Vargas, brothers, Casimiro (Maria Juana) Barrientez and Jesus (Alicia) Barrientez, and sisters, Juanita (Elpidio) Escamilla, Guadalupe Barrientez, and Francis (JR) Garza, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Sr. and Sofia Barrientez and sister, Celestina Barrientez.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 8:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. followed by a memorial service from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
