Maria Leija

Maria Leija, 76, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in Raymondville, TX., surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on July 26, 1947, in Willamar, TX to Nicolas Leija Sr. and Isabel Garza.

She is survived by her sons, Pedro Garcia, Jose Marroquin Jr. (Brenda), Julian Beserra Jr. (Lorinda), Felipe Beserra, and Miguel Frank Garcia (Maria), her daughters, Maria Guadalupe Trevino, and Melissa Ann Muniz (Oscar), her brother, Domingo Leija Sr. (Manuela), her sisters, Maria Trinidad Hernandez, Juanita Leija, Maria Guadalupe Zaragoza, Rita Leija, and Ramona Leija, she is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren and counting.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas Leija Sr., and Isabel Garza, her son, Pablo Garcia, her sisters, Julia Ramirez, Maria del Refugio Ramirez, and Isabel Quesada, her brothers, Santiago Leija Sr., Nicolas Leija Jr., Jose Jesus Leija Sr., and Hector Leija.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers were Domingo Reyna III, Martin Trevino Jr., Jose C. Muniz Jr., Juan Pablo Muniz, Pedro Garcia III, Pablo Garcia, Phillip Garcia and Orlando Villarreal.

Visitation was held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 12 P.M. until 9 P.M. with a holy rosary at 7 P.M. and resumed on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. with a holy rosary at 7 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.  A funeral mass was held on Monday, October 2, 2023, at 1 P.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment followed to her final place of rest at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, TX 78580.
