Ofelia G. Hinojosa, 93, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones in Santa Monica, Texas. Ofelia was born on March 23, 1929, in La Jarita Ranch, Texas to Uvaldo Garcia and Francisca Solis Garcia.
Ofelia is a 1947 Graduate of Lyford High School. She worked at the La Jarita School and continued a 29-year career with the Lyford Consolidated School District until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Santa Monica Catholic Mission, serving on the Altar Society and as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a 2003 recipient of the Santa Monica Catholic Church Shining Star Award.
Ofelia was a loving and caring soul revered by all within her community and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Esther H. Garza of Santa Monica, Irma H. Infante (Rudy+) of Lyford, Janie H. Benavides of Santa Monica, and Belinda H. Rios of Harlingen; and stepson Jimmy Hinojosa (Yolanda+) of Harlingen; her six grandchildren: Mark Garza (G.P.), Cecilia Infante-Guerrero (Michael), Mario Garza (Marissa), J.R. Infante, Sonya Rios, and Jason Benavides; and 2 step-granddaughters: Sandy Hinojosa and Julie H. Gallichio (Brian); her seven great-grandchildren: Michael B Guerrero, Bella, and David Gonzales, J.R. II and Jose Armando Infante and Sadie Ofelia and Noah Garza.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Armando Hinojosa; her brother, Uvaldo Garcia and sisters Helen McKinney and Dora Garcia.
The Hinojosa family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Maria Alvarez, Esperanza Ortega, and the caring staff of Kindred Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. and resume Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lyford, Texas, followed by interment at Lyford Evergreen Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Mark Garza, Mario Garza, J.R. Infante, Jason Benavides, Michael Guerrero, and Robert Garcia, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Ramon Moya, Jr. and Eddie Salinas, Jr.
