It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Olivia Lamas Garza, 90, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Harlingen, TX. She was born on March 23, 1935, to parents, Esteban and Oralia Lamas. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and was an active member of the Busy Bees.
She is survived by her daughter, Ofelia Garza Schreck (Paul David Schreck), her brother, Pedro (Irma) Monreal, her sister, Elida (Jose) Rivera, her sister in laws, Felicita Juarez, Mary Frances Garza and Valentina Garza, her grandchildren, Jeffery Dean Taylor Jr., Christina Jean Meiners, her great grandchildren, Michael, Seth, and Cheyenne Meiners, and Adrian Taylor. Olivia was also blessed with two great great grandchildren, Octavia Light, and Amias Taylor.
She is preceded in death by her father, Esteban Lamas, her mother, Oralia G. Monreal, her stepfather, Hilario Monreal, her soul mate and husband of 63 years, Higinio Lopez Garza, her sisters, San Juanita Hernandez, Aurora Aguilar, Angelita Trevino, and Maria Snaples and her brother, Primitivo Lamas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeremy Light, Gabriel Juarez, Andrew Valencia, Noe Hernandez, Hector Hernandez, and Jeffery Dean Taylor Jr.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lyford. Interment will follow to her final place of rest next to her loving husband at the Sebastian Cemetery.
