Raul Rodriguez Obituary

Raul Rodriguez was born 61 years ago in Mercedes, TX, and raised in Sebastian, TX. He was a graduate of the 1980 Class of Lyford. He was and remained a fierce Bulldog who loved and participated in all sports. Raul’s favorite was track and field, where he received numerous accolades. After graduation, he proudly served in the US Army as a military policeman and was in the 164th MP Co. in Miesau, Germany; he went on to show his strength and courage by earning his Airborne Wings in the 118th before his honorable discharge in January of 1984. Raul continued his call to serve with the Texas National Guard as a transport specialist until 1989.

In March of 1984, he married his high school sweetheart, Marlena Garcia. In their 38 years together, they were blessed with three children, David Raul, Melissa Renee, and Marissa Rae; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Dawn; and three grandchildren, Raegan Marie, David Raul, Jr., and Lily-Ann Faith; and many, many family and friends.

As a truck driver for more than 30 years, he was gifted with an incredible memory and he was famous for giving accurate and detailed directions even before GPS was an app.  He was a first-class jokester, no one was safe from his good-natured ribbing and poking.  He loved to tell stories and with his memory - he always had plenty to tell.

A devoted Catholic, Raul believed in serving his fellow man, caring for his community, and being a supporter of the underdog, a debater, and a true friend.

Raul is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Josefina P. Rodriguez. Left to mourn his loss along with his wife, children, and grandchildren are his four brothers, Manuel, Jr., Marcos, Jose David (JD), and Omar; and his sisters, Ninfa Lee and Sara Anna; his mother-in-law, Virginia Crain; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, in-laws, and many, many friends.

Friends are welcome on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, after 10:00 am and a Rosary will be recited at 1:00 pm at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. His funeral mass will be celebrated at Prince of Peace in Lyford at 4:00 pm and Raul will be laid to rest at Tres Norias Ranch Family Cemetery in Santa Monica.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his nephews Armando Castillo, Marcus Flores, Lance Thormaehlen, Mason Riley, Jayden Borjas, Kolby Greene, and Konnor Greene. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Larry Rodriguez, Reynaldo Romo, David Leal, Juan Tovar, Henry Paige, and Joe Aparicio.
