Rene Garcia

Rene R. Garcia, 68, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 24, 2023 at his residence in Harlingen, TX. He was born on June 18, 1954 in Raymondville, TX to Raul Garcia and Maria Cantu Garcia.

Rene was a math teacher for 43 years. He began his career at Rio Hondo High School and then taught in Los Fresnos. He taught for six years in Austin before returning to the valley and teaching at Vela Middle School. He ended his career at Lasara ISD. One of his major accomplishments was being the mathematics coach in 1993 and his nationwide junior math program placed fourth and fifth. He also was featured in Who’s Who in America Among America’s Teachers in 1998 and 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Garcia, son, Eric Garcia, and brothers, Roy (Nora) Garcia and Richard (Carmen) Garcia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raul and Maria Garcia.

Viewing was held on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 12:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen, TX. A funeral procession followed to his final place of rest in the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Eric Garcia, Rolando Melendez Jr., Pete Melendez, Rolando Melendez Sr., Ray Munoz, and Orlando Medina.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, TX 78580.
