Roberto G. Rodriguez, 94, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on August 1, 1927 in Armstrong, Texas to Nicholas Rodriguez and Romana Garcia Rodriguez.
Roberto was born in Norias Ranch, then when he was old enough, became the chauffer for the Armstrong family of the King Ranch for years. He then was hired with the Texas Highway Department as a driver. He retired after 25 years of loyal service. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending lots of time with family. They would watch wrestling and football and he especially loved watching his grandchildren play in school activities. He loved scratching lottery tickets and meeting up with his friends in the morning for coffee. He was part of the “Pittman Grandpa Patrol” that was designated by the principal while his grandson’s were in elementary and was recognized in the local paper for it. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 10 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Romana Rodriguez, brothers, Pedro Rodriguez, Ruben Rodriguez, and sister, Ofelia(Robert) Salazar. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Oralia Guzman Rodriguez, daughters, Eliza (Pedro) Valle of Harlingen, Texas, Iris Martinez of Raymondville, Texas, and Velma Garcia of La Porte, Texas. Grandchildren include Robyn Martinez (Josh Everett), Roberto Valle, Adriana Garcia, Adrian Valle, and Haily Martinez and great grandchild, Reed Everett. Also included are brothers, Nicholas Rodriguez and Rosendo Rodriguez, and sister, Viola (Gilbert) DeLuna.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and resumes on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will commence at 7:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Funeral procession will follow to his final place of rest at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Robert “Bobby” Salazar, Joey Salazar, Roberto A. Valle, Adrian D. Valle, Esteban Ramirez, and Richard Marcha. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Perez Villarreal and Santiago Marcha.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, TX 78580.
