San Juanita “Janie” Munguia gained her beautiful angel wings on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the age of 69. She was born on July 9, 1953, in Raymondville, Texas to her parents Esteban Sr. and Felipa M. Tovar.
Janie had a passion for baking and cooking her favorite recipes. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during football season when she cheered on her Dallas Cowboys. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved supporting them at all their sporting events and was their #1 fan.
Janie leaves behind a legacy of strong family values, Catholic faith, and unity. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Joseph I. Munguia, daughters, Andria (Jaime) Acuna, Jennifer (Rodney, SSG-R) Suarez, and Veronica (Arturo) Sayas; brothers, Juan Tovar, Joe Tovar, Martin Tovar, Patrick Tovar, Robert Tovar; and sisters, Estela Beserra, Tina Waggoner, Melba Rodriguez, Norma Tovar, and 6 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Esteban Tovar Sr., brother, Esteban Tovar Jr., and mother, Felipa M. Tovar.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 12:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 693 N. 3rd, Raymondville, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers were (sons-in-law) Jaime Acuna, Rodney Suarez, Arturo Sayas, (brothers) Martin Tovar, Patrick Tovar, and Robert Tovar. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons: Arturo J. Sayas, Rodney Suarez Jr., Michael Suarez, and Noah Acuna.
